New UK Transplant Decision

Family of deceased organ donors in the UK will now be permitted to suggest that an organ from their deceased relative should be offered to someone in their family who would benefit from a transplanted organ. This follows a recent decision by the UK Transplant Authority to allow Directed Deceased Organ Donation in a number of specific circumstances.

Heart of Jenin

Twelve year old Ahmed Khatib was shot by Israeli soldiers when he and another child who had been playing in the street were caught up in an exchange of fire between Israeli forces and Palestinian gunmen. An older boy ran, carrying Ahmed, trying to reach a hospital in Jenin where they lived.

New Home Haemodialysis treatment

People with end stage renal failure (ESKD) can now avail of a new Home-haemodialysis treatment in Ireland. This pilot treatment programme has recently been rolled out by Beaumont Hospital.
