Ernesto cycling for Organ Donation

Galway man Ernesto Antonio, who now lives in Essex, celebrated the 13th anniversary of his heart transplant by taking part in the LEJOG 1,000 mile cycle  which commenced at Lands End in the south of England and finished at John O’Groats in the north of Scotland.

This daunting cycle commenced on  9th September, and averaged 71 miles per day with certain days longer than others.  Some transplant doctors from Papworth Hospital in Cambridge are also took part in the cycle; doctors who are at the forefront of heart and lung transplantation and who look after Ernesto’s post transplant care.

Speaking about this challenge, Ernesto said, "I’m doing this to raise awareness of organ donation and in memory of my donor and I also hope to raise funds for research into organ transplantation in the Uk.

“I am also supporting Strange Boat Donor Foundation”, continued Ernesto, a charity which is undertaking the enormous feat of creating an Irish national commemorative garden to celebrate the lives of organ donors and their families, and which is  planned for Salthill in Galway, where I was born and raised.  Anyone wishing to donate to this charity and the Commemorative garden could do so through this website”, said Ernesto.
