Ireland's high rate of Lung Transplants

Ireland has the sixth highest rate of lung transplants in the world, according to a new report from the International Registry of Organ Donation and Transplantation.

Figures show that 38 lung transplants were carried out in Ireland last year (2019), however due to the Covid 19 pandemic only 11 lung transplants have taken place to date this year.

Carol Gilliland from Co. Monaghan received a double lung transplant in 2018 and is now enjoying a "wonderful new life".
